The Graduate Institute of Drama/Theater was established in 2003 to meet the growing need for teacher training in Performing Arts, which had been newly introduced as a subject in Taiwans Grade 19 Curriculum. Through the dedicated efforts of faculty members and graduate students, the program quickly gained national recognition and was highly praised in the 2006 National Assessment for Higher Education in Taiwan.
That same year, the undergraduate program was launched under the name Department of Drama Creation and Application.
In its first three years, the department focused on:
- Providing teacher training opportunities,
- Introducing new theories in drama education,
- Implementing drama curricula, and
- Conducting research on Drama Education in Taiwanese schools.
As the undergraduate program expanded, its academic focus broadened to include Applied Drama/Theater. The department sought to extend the application of drama beyond schools, incorporating it into services for children, young people, and families within the community and society at large.
Through collaborative theatrical projects, the program encourages students to integrate multidisciplinary approachesand multimedia innovation into their artistic work. Additionally, our interactive drama program is designed to foster young peoples awareness of local, cross-cultural, and global issues through performance-based exploration.
