Hsu, Rey-Fang  
  Hsu Rey-fang received her BA in Chinese Literature from Tamkang University, her MFA in Theatre Playwriting from Taipei National University of the Arts. She is Assistant Professor of Department of Drama Creation and Application at National University of Tainan. She was also the former artistic director of Tainaner Ensemble(1994-2002) and built Apollo Ensemble with her students in 2014. She is one of the key promoters and developers of modern theatre in southern Taiwan.
 
    Rey-Fang has lots of productions. The goal of her works to raise awareness of social and cultural issues, and she brings a variety of for discussion on the stage. Examples include Breeze over the Trees(2012), for the youth theatre that cares for elderly people with dementia, and LingNan Justice(2012), who work with Tainan’s Lingnan Community, giving performances in opposition to waste landfills in the area. In the past decade she had devoted herself to promoting Theatre-in-Education(T-I-E), exploring diverse topics through works of interactive theatre, such as  La! When flying Back (2013), which delves into issues of life and the environment; The Nilala Village (2010), which helped with Typhoon Morako relief efforts; The Completion of the Mansion (1999), which concerns about the identity of aboriginal; and Opening the Gate in 1895 (2009) and Bridge of the Ancestors. (2009) , both produced in cooperation with the National Museum of Taiwan History. She still works with NMTH, developing the Docent Theatre for the Museum’s Permanent Exhibition.
   
    Rey-Fang has two books for T-I-E: The Encounter Between Theatre in Education and History: Directorial Explanations for Opening the Gate in 1895 & Bridge of the Ancestors (2011 )& Echoes of the Surging Tide: Theory and Practice of TIE (2001, co –writer with Tsai Chi-Chang), and 5 books for the script: Opening the Gate in 1895 (2009), Bridge of the Ancestors (2009), The Phoenix Trees are in Blossom. (1995), Take Me to See the Fish (1995), Non Citizen (1994)
